Liverpool have told Monaco they will pay over £50million for Thomas Lemar, and the Principality outfit are now considering whether they can part with the winger.
Arsenal have tried to sign the attacking midfielder this summer, but after weeks of talks failed to lodge an acceptable offer, and they never got above £50million.
Now Liverpool are ready to pay them £55million, and that seemingly is enough for Monaco to consider – despite the fact the transfer window closes across Europe on Thursday.
21-year-old Lemar was understood to be keen to move to Arsenal, and now Liverpool are interested – it remains to be seen if he is just as keen to link-up with the Anfield giants.
Monaco, who are about to lose Kylian Mbappe to PSG, are wary of losing Lemar on top of this, with Fabinho also still linked with moves away from the club – having previously sold Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Bookmakers are not convinced Liverpool could get the deal done and Monaco are odds on at 1/2 with Ladbrokes to keep him. Liverpool are 2/1 to land him.
Liverpool also remain keen Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Chelsea are firmly in pole position and are understood to have agreed a deal for him. It remains to be seen if Liverpool will try and match that, or indeed concentrate on Lemar.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has refused a new deal at The Emirates and has less than 12-months left on his current deal.
Chelsea are currently odds-on to land Chamberlain at 4/5 with Liverpool at 7/4 to land him.
