Liverpool maintain an interest in Christian Pulisic and they could very well try for a £100millon plus double American swoop with Weston McKennie too.
Borussia Dortmund star Pulisic has long been linked with a move to England – and Liverpool have always been the favourites, with Jurgen Klopp a huge admirer of the US star, who was signed by the German giants during his tenure.
The 20-year-old can play anywhere across the forward line, and has emerged as one of the best young attacking midfielders in Europe.
Dortmund are in no hurry to sell, but they are believed to be willing to take at around £70million – which is unlikely to put off his suitors which not only include Liverpool – but Premier League rivals Chelsea, and both Manchester clubs United and City.
Pulisic is regularly quizzed about his long-term future and recently said: “When the time comes for me to talk in the breaks with Dortmund about my future, then that’s when those things happen.
“Like I said before, reading these articles (about me), I tend to stay away from that stuff. I know it is going to be there but it is not my priority.”
But Pulisic is not the only American that Klopp and his staff are keen on with McKennie – who is close to Pulisic – also in their sights.
The all action Schalke midfielder has shone in the Bundesliga over the last 18-months, and is now in the sights of a host of clubs – but Liverpool are keen, and he could very well be a replacement for summer recruit Fabinho – if they decide to sell him without making a major impact.
Indeed McKennie is very similar in style to Fabinho, having been used in defence and attack, as well as his more natural midfield role.
McKennie played the majority of USA’s loss to England, and a number of sides took the opportunity to watch him in action.
Schalke would want around £30million for McKennie – who they snapped up from FC Dallas in 2016, and that would represent a huge profit for the Bundesliga outfit.
Bookmakers fancy Liverpool to sign both players, they are 4/1 to land McKennie and 5/1 for Pulisic – although Chelsea are favourites to land him at 3/10.
