Liverpool have seen their Premier League title odds slashed after they went top of the table as Manchester City lost their first game of the season.
Many thought Liverpool’s unbeaten stance was most likely to go first, but on the weekend which saw them sweep Bournemouth aside – City were humbled at Chelsea.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp maintains that they will have to be at their best to stop City winning back-to-back titles.
“We expect them [City] to win all the time apart from the games against us,” said Klopp.
“We have only to try to play the best season we can play. In this difficult period you have to focus completely on your own performance.”
As a result of the weekend’s action and now second in the table, City have been eased out to 4/11 from 1/5 to win the league as result.
Now the only unbeaten side in the league, Liverpool’s odds have been slashed from 12/1 to 8/1 to continue their winning ways right through until the end of the season.
As they go into the next round of fixtures as league leaders, the Reds are now 5/2 from 4/1 to remain there come May.
Aoife Heffron, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “Liverpool are top of the Premier League table and aren’t going anywhere, for a week at least!
“Klopp’s side were always expected to take over the top spot from City but remaining there always looked unlikely with City also enjoying a perfect run so far this season, however Liverpool are now the only unbeaten team in the league and have seen their odds to stay like that for the remainder of the season come into 8/1 from 12/1.”
