Lukaku backed for goals after sealing move

Romelu Lukaku is odds-on to score over 20 goals next season after finalising his move to Manchester United.

Lukaku has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, after a deal worth an initial £75million was confirmed.

“Romelu is a natural fit for Manchester United. He is a big personality and a big player,” said United boss Jose Mourinho.

“It is only natural that he wants to develop his career at the biggest club. He will be a great addition to the group and I know they will make him very welcome. I am really looking forward to working with him again.”

Lukaku himself added: “I would like to start by thanking Everton and the fans for the last four wonderful seasons, I have made some special friends and we have shared some amazing moments. However, when Manchester United and Jose Mourinho come knocking at the door it is an opportunity of a lifetime and one that I could not turn down.

“You could see the fight, determination and the spirit in this team during the Europa League final and I want to become a part of that. I cannot wait to run out at Old Trafford in front of 75,000 fans but before that pre-season is where the hard work starts and I am looking forward to that first training session.”

Lukaku is one of only five players to have scored 50 Premier League goals before he turned 23, and the only foreign player to score 80 before he was 24 – but he has only ever his 20 league goals in a season once – last year.

But Bookmakers are more than confident he will be on the goal-scoring trail next season and bet365 make him 8/11 to score 20 goals and 11/10 to be under.

bet365’s Steve Freeth “Lukaku has been labelled a ‘flat-track bully’ in some quarters but he did score at Man City, Spurs and Arsenal, plus Jose did struggle to beat the ‘lesser’ teams at Old Trafford last season.”

bet365 also have a market on how many goals Lukaku scores in the two league games against the Toffees.
