Man City trying for Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City are trying to land Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, but it is understood the Midlands club have no interest in any sort of deadline day deal.

Indeed, I have been told by sources that Mahrez’s people do not think a deal is possible at this point and the player believes he will be staying at the King Power – however, that has not stopped him putting in a transfer request, which has underlined his willingness to make the move.

The Algerian has once again been linked with a number of moves throughout this window, but so far no bids have been lodged – although he is hoping that Man City can make an offer that would make Leicester think twice, but three bids so far have been well short of what The Foxes would ask.

Bookmakers have seen a glut of interest in City and Mahrez and odds have been slashed, with BetVictor putting them at 4/7 to land him.

However, I am told that the the most likely deal for City to do before Wednesday is for Brazilian midfielder Fred – although that may well be to sign him in the summer.

City are holding talks with Shakthar Donetsk over the 24-year-old, who is also a target for their neighbours and rivals Manchester United.

Even if City can’t get the deal done this week, they are hoping to get an early deal tied up for him – so will sign a pre-contract deal if they need to.

BetVictor also have City down as firm favourites for Fred – they are currently 2/1 ahead of United at 8/1.
