Markets close on Palace with De Boer set to arrive

Markets have closed across the board on the next Crystal Palace manager with Dutchman Frank de Boer set to be named as their new boss.

De Boer has been in the running for the Palace and Southampton jobs, as has Argentine Mauricio Pellegrino, but he is set to take charge at Selhurst Park – with Pellegrino odds-on for the hot-seat at St Mary’s.

Palace have been looking for a new boss since the end of the season when Sam Allardyce announced he was resigning and stepping back from football – which left with The Eagles with the need of a new boss.

Palace chief Steve Parish has been considering a number of different options with the likes of Sean Dyche and Roy Hodgson also linked, but they have now opted to go foreign with De Boer.

De Boer, 47, spent six hugely successful years as Ajax boss before taking over at Inter Milan last summer, but he was axed just three months into that role, and he will be hoping to last longer in South London.

PaddyPower were one of the first to confirm their market had been suspended.

“Paddy Power has suspended betting on the next Crystal Palace manager – after a flood of bets on former Ajax boss Frank De Boer,” spokesman Lee Price confirmed.

“The Dutchman had gone odds-on , but the weight of money has forced us to stop taking bets on what we now consider a done deal.”
