McInnes odds on for Sunderland role

Derek McInnes is odds on to take charge of Sunderland, after the two clubs began talks over a deal.

McInnes has a release clause of £1.2million but The Black Cats want to pay less for the former Rangers midfielder – who has done great work at Aberdeen.

Sunderland have long had McInnes in their sights – and TheGamblingTimes.com exclusively revealed their interest back in May – when he was as long as 12/1 for the job.

Now at 1/6 with BetVictor – he could be appointed as early as next week, when he returns from a family holiday in America.

We spoke to BetVictor’s Head of antepost Football Michael Triffitt on the McInnes market.

“Derek McInnes has been popular throughout the contest to find the next Sunderland manager but with the Dons in the Cup final perhaps The Black Cats had to play the waiting game,” he told us.

“McInnes has done well with the Scottish outfit, especially last term when they finished runners up behind Celtic, and after experience in the Championship before when helping Bristol City survive the drop will look forward to potentially joining a side going for promotion. He is 1-6 from 1-2 whilst talks are ongoing but the life spell of this market may now be shortening very quickly!”
