Mesut Ozil to decide on future

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil insists that his future could still be at the club, but the decision will be made soon.

Ozil’s current deal, like team-mates Alexis Sanchez, expires next year and both have been the subject of widespread speculation about their futures.

Ozil has been a hugely influential figure for Arsenal since joining from Real Madrid in 2013, but the fact he has yet to commit to his future does mean he could soon be on his way.

But whilst on international duty with Germany, he has insisted that nothing has been decided – although he also insists that he wants to compete for the Champions League, something Arsenal have struggled to do during his time with the club.

“Do you think Arsene Wenger tells the journalists [about my future] before he tells me? I know him differently,” he told the Germany media.

“I have a contract until 2018 in London and I feel very comfortable there. We’ll talk soon and then make a decision.

“My dream is to win the Champions League. Why not with Arsenal? Of course, we just have a difficult time and are not satisfied with sixth place.

“I am convinced, however, that we will catch up again soon. Let’s see what the future holds.”

Our Football Insider Graeme Bailey feels that Arsenal need to convince Ozil and Sanchez to commit to the project at Arsenal.

“Things are difficult at Arsenal, and whilst the future of their manager Arsene Wenger is still not know – that does make it hard to strike deals with the big players, but we also know money talks.

“Sanchez and Ozil are world-class performers and nowadays that means money approaching £250,000-a-week – if not more and will get that at Arsenal? I am not sure, but again that sort of thinking might change of Wenger is replaced.

“It is certainly a big few weeks coming up at The Emirates.”

BetVictor list Ozil’s former club Real Madrid as favourites to land his signature this summer.
