Newcastle keen on Danny Ings

Newcastle United are interested in landing England striker Danny Ings if, as expected, he departs Liverpool this summer.

The 25-year-old has endured an injury ridden spell at Anfield since, including two knee ligament injuries – which have limited to just 14 Premier League games.

He returned to fitness midway through last season and loan bids were rejected as Jurgen Klopp gave him a chance to try and compete for a place, and he did feature.

But now after talks Ings is understood to have decided that the time is right to move on, and now a number of clubs have been contacted with Liverpool ready to let him in a deal worth around £15million.

Former club Burnley were linked but their primary target is another former Clartes man in the shape of Jay Rodriguez.

Now rivals are looking at a deal with Newcastle heading the chase, having tried to sign Ings in each of the last two windows.

Southampton, West Ham, Fulham and Brighton are also believed to be monitoring the situation whilst there is also the possibility of him heading to Scotland with Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard both keeping an eye on their former club.

Bookmakers still make Burnley favourites to land Ings, ahead of Newcastle.

“We thought everything was coming together for a return to Turf Moor for Danny Ings, but the bets that we have taken suggest that most people are starting to think a move to Newcastle is on the cards,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
