Newcastle takeover will see odds slashed

Bookmakers believe Newcastle United will be heading for glory if their proposed takeover by Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nahyan goes ahead.

The Dubai-based businessman, through his company the Bin Zayed Group – have insisted terms are close to being agreed.

And although not confirmation has yet come from owner Mike Ashley – Newcastle fans are getting excited about the prospective of a new owner.

If the take over goes ahead, the Magpies’ odds of winning the Premier League in the next 10 years will slash dramatically from 150/1 to 2/1, while a Champions League win in the same time frame is 6/4.

Newcastle’s immediate chances of Premier League success still stand at a realistic 150/1 as does a top four finish at 25/1 – however, heavy recruitment will see their odds drop. Just as Manchester City’s success didn’t start straight away, winning their first title four years after their takeover by Khaldoon Al Mubarak and the Abu Dhabi United Group.

The Toon Army are also Evens to be the top spending club in the Premier League if the money becomes available – a huge contrast to previous seasons where Mike Ashley has kept his wallet in his pocket.

A spokesman from SportNation.Bet said: “If this rumoured takeover gets completed then we could well have a new English powerhouse on our hands.

“Already a huge club with a massive fan base, the billions injected into the club could well bring silverware to Tyneside just like it has done with Manchester City, something that is suggested in the projected odds.”
