Neymar’s PSG future called into question

Neymar is far from happy with the current situation at Paris Saint Germain, and it is claimed he could be on the move this summer.

Neymar joined PSG in 2017 when they paid Barcelona over £200million to make him the most expensive player in football history.

Almost since the day he arrived Neymar’s future in the French capital has been questioned and PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi appears to be growing weary of chat about the Brazilian’s future.

“Players will have to be more responsible than before,” Al Khelaifi said.

“They will have to do more and work harder. They are not there for their own amusement. If they do not agree, the doors are open – Ciao!

“I do not want star behaviour anymore. I want players proud to wear our jersey, not players who do the job when it suits them.”

Now it is believed that PSG are determined to keep hold of Kylian Mbappe, but they are open to a possible Neymar move – but that means only a handful of clubs can sign him, with his former club Barcelona seemingly heading the chase.

In terms of finances – Barcelona and their main rivals Real Madrid can afford him, and arguably the only other European based side would be Bayern Munich, but there is England where the top-six in theory would all have resources to do a deal.

However, it seems that only Manchester United are showing an interest at this point in time, although much will depend on where Neymar wants to play.

There are clubs in China and the Middle East who would also love to take Neymar – but at this time he has shown no willingness to make that move – meaning it is likely a battle between Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Bookmakers, though, are not convinced that Neymar is moving – with PaddyPower making him 1/8 to remain at PSG, with Barcelona 7/2 to land him.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Quotes from PSG’s president have put Neymar’s future under the spotlight – again.

“He questioned the Brazilian star’s ego and work ethic, and considering it’s rumoured that he believes he’s only worthy of going to Barcelona should he leave the club, we can see why.

“Real Madrid are seen as the only other club who could sweep for him, but they’ve already signed Hazard and could have hands full with Pogba, too.”
