Bayern Munich and Juventus had been leading the chase, but the Italian giants look set to drop out of the race – ironically because they will be taking Douglas Costa from Juve.
Bayern want Sanchez, but have baulked at his wage demands which are in excess of £300,000-a-week and that is where City have the upper-hand as they are wiling to pay what he wants.
City are willing to bide their time, and sources close to the club believe they are confident of landing the 28-year-old.

“Of course, the move makes total sense, given City’s absolute shortage of attacking options and no need at all of defensive reinforcements… Oh.”
