Odds slashed on Mayweather-McGregor fight to take place

With the news that Conor McGregor has signed his agreement to fight Floyd Mayweather, bookmakers have cut the price on the fight taking place this year.

As long as 8/1 before this week – the duo are now 3/1 to get it on, after the Irish MMA star agreed terms.

One of the big issues for the boxing match taking place, was that McGregor had a contract with UFC and their chief Dana White had to agree to let him do it.

White is now actively involved in getting the fight on, and he has confirmed McGregor’s side of the deal is done.

“The McGregor side is done, I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now,” White confirmed.

“I’ve got one side done. If we can come to a deal (with Mayweather) the fight will happen.’

McGregor confirmed the deal in a statement released to Themaclife.com.

“The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days,” the statement read.

Five-division world champion Mayweather, one of the best fighters of his generation, has not fought since victory over Andre Berto in September 2015 when he levelled Rocky Marciano’s unbeaten mark of 49 fights.

Mayweather has already insisted that he is ready to  take on McGregor.

“For Conor McGregor, I’m coming out of retirement, just to fight Conor McGregor,” he said earlier in the year.

“I don’t want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC. Sign the paper with the UFC so you can fight me in June. Simple and plain.”

Bookmakers now believe there is a real chance that the fight will happen.

“It looks like we are one step closer to what would almost certainly be the biggest betting fight in boxing history,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

“UFC fans appear to be very loyal to their man and he is already a six figure loser for us.”

William Hill have slashed the price of the Mayweather vs McGregor fight taking place in 2017 from 8/1 to 3/1.

Mayweather is 1/10 to win the fight, whilst McGregor is the 11/2 outsider for the fight and is already a six figure loser for Hills.
