Parker favourite to beat Clarke to Fulham role

Scott Parker is favourite to be named Fulham manager after being confirmed as their caretaker boss.

Claudio Ranieri was removed as Fulham boss earlier this week despite only taking over from Slavisa Jokanovic in November.

Now Parker will complete the season as Cottagers chief, and he knows his temporary spell is a chance for him to get the job full time.

“It’s definitely an audition,” he said. “On a personal note, this is something I started working towards seven years ago when I was a Spurs player. I’ve got an ambition to be a manager.

“I don’t have many friends but yesterday my phone was pinging all the time.

“[Former Manchester United manager] Sir Alex [Ferguson] found the time to send a long, detailed message giving me advice on how he sees things, which is truly inspirational.”

BetVictor make him 2/1 favourite ahead of Kilmarnock’s Steve Clarke, who has been strongly linked with the role.

BetVictor’s Head of antepost Football Michael Triffitt commented: “Scott Parker has replaced Claudio Ranieri at Fulham although it will need a miracle for the Cottagers to avoid the drop this season. Fulham may well be looking to life back in the Championship and BetVictor make Parker their 2/1 favourite to still be at the helm at the start of next season, irrespective of which league they may find themselves.

“Parker had a decorated playing career which finished with four years at Craven Cottage and is highly regarded and well liked . If Fulham however are looking to recruit someone with more experience, then current Kilmarnock gaffer could well be the man and he is just 4/1 to be swapping Scotland for London.

“There are many high profile managers looking for work with David Wagner at 6/1 and Claude Puel at 8/1 both having tasted Premier League management this term. The ball is in Parkers court and it will be intriguing to see if he can galvanise Fulham for the remainder of this campaign.”
