West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has been given backing by the club’s board as pressure mounts on the Chilean.

The Hammers are pointless after their first four games of the season, something that has happened 11 times and something West Ham themselves did previously in 2010.

Back in 2010 under Avram Grant, West Ham went on to be relegated and the club fear again that could be the outcome – despite investing nearly £100million in new players this summer.

“I don’t think it is a bad start, it is a very bad start,” said Pellegrini himself after their loss to Wolves

Despite the pressure, Hammers vice-chairman Karren Brady has backed the former Manchester City chief to come good.

“We appointed a manager with the most successful career we have ever had in Manuel Pelligrini and spent over £100m on players he wanted that we all thought would improve the team considerably,” says Brady.

“It hasn’t happened yet but I have complete faith that things will soon start to turn our way. The most important thing is to stick together.”

Bookmakers are not convinced in West Ham’s faith and Pellegrini is odds-on to leave before the end of the season.

Coral now make it 4/6 for him to leave before the end of the season.

“The betting suggests Manuel Pellegrini will not see out the season at West Ham following his side’s poor start to the campaign where they have failed to win a point so far,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“We have seen a flurry of bets over the last couple of days on Pellegrini being the first managerial casualty in the Premier League this season where he has only Jose Mourinho ahead of him in the betting.”
