Pellegrini odds slashed in sack race

Manuel Pellegrini has seen his odds to be the first Premier League manager to be axed slashed.

The Hammers are bottom of the table and are the only team without a point in the top-flight, and West Ham fans are certainly disgruntled.

“The fans have the last season in their mind,” the Chilean said.

“They see that we are continuing with the same problems as last season where this team played not to be relegated all season.

“They had expectations, they saw we brought in new players and, of course, the desire to see the team playing well is high.”

Jose Mourinho had been odds-on favourite to be the next Premier League manager to go, and although he still heads the betting – Pellegrini is now rubbing shoulders with him.

Having been a 10/1 shot to be the first manager to leave his post before the weekend, the West Ham boss is now just a 7/2 shot to be sent packing.

That means he’s now second-favourite in the betting behind Mourinho, whose odds have drifted from even-money to 3/1 over.

Elsewhere, Mark Hughes (6/1) Rafa Benitez (7/1) and Neil Warnock (8/1) are the only other managers with single figure odds.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Mourinho looks to have bought himself some time with a win over Burnley, while Pellegrini is fast approaching must-win territory for the Hammers.”
