Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is finally hoping he can get his his hands on Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago this summer, our Football Insider Graeme Bailey understands.
Guardiola is a huge fan of the Spanish international having given him his debut on no less than three occasions, with Barcelona, Barcelona B and Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old has emerged as a keen player for the German giants over the last two years and the midfield creator is now one of the top midfielders in Europe.
Guardiola wanted to land him last summer and City tried, but Bayern said no – but he still hopes he can land him.
Our Football Insider Graeme Bailey told us: “I understand City will make another play for Thiago this summer, Guardiola loves him – but he has been performing so well at Bayern, to get him would be a huge undertaking.
“He has two-years left on his contract and sources close to City have told me that he would cost in-excess of £50million.”
Thiago joined Bayern in 2013 from Barcelona and he has two-years left on his current deal, but talks are set to commence over a fresh deal – with the German giants understood to be keen on him to stay but along with City his former club Barca are also believed to be keen on taking him back to Catalunya.
We spoke with Ladbrokes about their thoughts on Thiago and they list him at just 13/8 to join City this summer.
Ladbrokes News’ Dave Burin told TheGamblingTimes.com “Pep could be set to rejoin forces with one of his Barca and Bayern stars, with the bookies making it just 13/8 he swaps Munich for Manchester this summer.”
