Poch still favourite for United gig, but Ole odds slashed

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen his odds slashed to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager, but Mauricio Pochettino remains favourite for the role.

The Norwegian coach, a United legend as a player, returned to the club in December as interim boss – replacing Jose Mourinho until the end of the season.

He has since guided United to four straight wins in his opening four games, a feat only ever seen at the club once before from the great Sir Matt Busby.

Solskjaer is delighted and fully admits he wants to stay with the club come the end of the season. When asked if he will leave in May, he stated: “I don’t want to.”

“I’m just thinking about the next game, because if you win four you can win another four with this club. That’s the challenge, that’s the standard we’re used to.”

Solskjaer is now just 15/8 to be in the hot seat on the first game of next season, with Pochettino still the bookmaker’s favourite to take charge at 11/10

The Tottenham manager, long seen as the manager in waiting at Old Trafford, is the 11/10 favourite for the job, ahead of former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane at 5/1.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Manchester United’s caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a stunning start since replacing Jose Mourinho and the former super sub has made it well known he would love the job on a more permanent basis.

“He would be a very popular choice amongst United fans and is the 15/8 second favourite to be in charge for the first game of the 2019/20 season, though Mauricio Pochettino still looks like the number one target.

“The Spurs boss is our favourite at 11/10 to land the role having been long-admired by the Manchester side, while former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is also in the running at 5/1.”
