Premier League clubs handed tough Champions League tests

Manchester City were the only Premier League side to come away with a kind draw after the Champions League groups were decided.

The English champions are in Group F, where they will face Ukraine’s Shakthar Dontesk, Lyon of France and Hoffenheim of Germany – and Pep Guardiola’s men are firm favourites to progress, indeed they have seen their odds cut to win the whole tournament.

The same fortune City had did not fall on the other three Premier League clubs in the competition – Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Last year’s beaten finalists Liverpool found themselves in Pot Three before the draw and that opened them up to a tough draw, and that is how things transpired as they will face Paris Saint Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in Group C.

Man United came out in Group H where they will come up against former star Cristiano Ronaldo, now at Juventus, along with Valencia and Young Boys from Switzerland.

Tottenham have been handed the toughest of them all as they landed in Group B – which could easily be considered the Group of Death.

Spurs will face Spanish giants Barcelona, Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven and also Italians Inter Milan.

Defending champions Real Madrid came out in Group G, something they will be more than happy with as they will face Roma, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen.

The group-stage draw is as follows:

Group A
Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Monaco, Club Brugge

Group B
Barcelona, Tottenham, PSV Eindhoven, Inter Milan

Group C
Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli, Liverpool, Red Star Belgrade

Group D
Lokomotiv Moscow, Porto, Schalke, Galatasaray

Group E
Bayern Munich, Benfica, Ajax, AEK Athens

Group F
Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk, Lyon, Hoffenheim

Group G
Real Madrid, Roma, CSKA Moscow, Viktoria Plzen

Group H
Juventus, Manchester United, Valencia, Young Boys
