CLUB BY CLUB PREVIEW – PREDICTED TABLE BASED ON ODDS

1 – MANCHESTER CITY

We say: “For me City are the ones to beat, they have invested well and look a much better balanced squad, it won’t be easy as the league could the closest it has been for years but I think Pep might just get it right.”

2 – CHELSEA

We say: “Chelsea will finish top-four, no doubt and will push all the way for the title, don’t think they will retain it but they won’t be far off.”

3 – MANCHESTER UNITED

Jose Mourinho: “Can we win it? We can, but maybe we don’t. Normally, the second season should be better than the first, because you know the club, you know the players. The players, they know you, the club know you can affect in a positive way the structure. You can affect in a positive way the people that work around you.”
We say: “United have clearly improved with their summer spending and the whole spine looks very good – it could very well be a Cottonopolis top-two and United will be challenging, but may just come up short, but it would be no shock to see Jose lifting the trophy come May.”

4 – TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

We say: “No doubting Tottenham’s starting XI is as good as any in the Premier League and they should be looking at another title tilt, but they need more bodies in the squad, they look short on depth to go all the way – if Kane or Alli got injured, that could spell huge problems.”

5 – ARSENAL

Arsene Wenger:  “I would like that they [the fans] stand behind the team. We want to be united and together throughout the season – and hopefully we can make them happy at the end of the season.”
We say: “Arsenal have invested quite well, clearly their first-team is better – can they make the top-four again? At this moment in time it looks doubtful.”

6 – LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp: “I’m excited. I’ve been looking forward to the first game since we started pre-season. I’m not the best in pre-season – I’m not very patient. I’m happy that we can start.”
We say: “As it stands Liverpool have not enjoyed the best of pre-seasons when it comes to improving the squad. Things could change by the end of August, but at the moment I think they are one of the big-six to miss out on the top-four.”

7 – EVERTON

Ronald Koeman:  “Im really happy with how the new players have settled in, we have a really good team. It’s easy to come to Everton Football Club for the new players. The rest of the squad are open people and the new players feel at home when they move here. They have great futures at Everton and provide the quality we need to improve.”
We say: “Everton are an exciting prospect, they have brought in a number of new faces, they face a battle to break into the top-six and they have a chance, but top-six might be as good as they can hope for this season.”

8 – LEICESTER CITY

Craig Shakespeare: “Premier League survival is good, but I look at the squad and I want to be better than that and I think the players want to be better than that. I think our aim is to try and be competitive in every match, whether we’re playing Chelsea as Premier League winners last season or a team that’s just come up. There will be targets internally and privately and I think it’s important that the players know what’s required.”
We say: “Craig Shakespeare did a great job when he took charge last season and they have made some very good signings this summer, top-half finish all the way for me.”

9 – WEST HAM UNITED

We say: “West Ham have done so much better this summer, I think they could be in for a very good season. Settled in the London Stadium, I think they could and should be aiming for top-8 minimum.”

10 – SOUTHAMPTON

Mauricio Pellegrino:  “We are ready and looking forward to do our best. The players are fit, all of them, and this is the good news. They are realising the demands of the manager and we have to keep going.”
We say: “Southampton have mid-table written all over them, much will depend on how players react to Pellegrino – if it is good, they could push for top-8, if it is bad they could have to be careful.”

11 – NEWCASTLE UNITED
Ins: Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Stefan O’Connor, Josef Yarney, Jacob Murphy, Javier Manquillo

Rafa Benitez: “There will be challenges ahead of course, the summer but the hard work has been going on for some time and we can now continue positively with the development of the squad ahead of the start of the new season.”
We say: “Newcastle”s squad needed work before this summer, but that has not gone according to plan – so things are not looking great at the moment and it looks like Rafa will have a job to keep them up with the current squad.”

12 – AFC BOURNEMOUTH
Ins: Asmir Begovic, Jermain Defoe, Nathan Ake, Connor Mahoney
Outs: Max Travers, Ryan Allsop
Eddie Howe: “The hope is to kick on. I would never be arrogant enough or complacent enough to think that’s a given. We hope the new signings have an impact on the team, but we know how difficult the league is. It’s an incredibly difficult journey we’ve been on and, when you look at the names coming into the Premier League, the managers, the money being spent, it’s only going to get harder.”
We say: “Bournemouth look stronger, and have invested well – could push for top-half finish but squad depth might become an issue.”

13 – STOKE CITY
Ins: Darren Fletcher, Josh Tymon, Tre Pemberton, Kurt Zouma, Bruno Martins-Indi

Mark Hughes:  “It gets harder every year and we never underestimate that. We’ve done well to continue to push and one out of four seasons when we just didn’t quite exceed expectations, because prior to that is what we had been doing. It’s a situation we want to improve. That’s a challenge and we’ll use it as a positive. The fact that the general perception is that we underachieved somewhat will help us to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
We say: “Stoke look strong defensively and they will have too much to be dragged into trouble, but it remains to be seen if they have enough at the other end, it doesn’t look that way.”

14 – WEST BROMWICH ALBION

Tony Pulis: “It’s small steps for us. We haven’t got the money Everton have got to splash and spend or the other sides. There’s quite a few sides below us who have spent a lot of money as well. If you’re going to stay at a football club you’ve got to do it slowly. People have got to trust you and understand where you’ve got to go.”
We say: “West Brom performed so well last year, they would happily take a repeat and they should not be too far off replicating that – they should be top-half for me.”

15 – CRYSTAL PALACE

We say: “Going from Sam Allardyce to Frank De Boer could be a major culture shock to the squad and it will be hugely interesting to see how they progress. They should avoid a relegation battle, but not by much.”

16 – SWANSEA CITY

18 – BURNLEY

19 – BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION

20 – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
