Race on to land Kieran Tierney

Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Newcastle United have joined Manchester United and Arsenal in the hunt for Celtic defender Kieran Tierney.

The Isle of Man-born left-back has emerged as a huge talent in the past couple of seasons, becoming a regular for Celtic and now a Scotland international.

The tough tackling 19-year-old has been watched closely by Man United and Arsenal – who were first too track him last season.

But Tierney’s progress has seen a number of clubs pick up on his progress, and in recent weeks I can reveal that Tottenham and Everton have both posted scouts and reports have been hugely encouraging.

Newcastle, who are on their way back to the Premier League, are also hugely keen and are ready to join any bidding.

I also understand German outfit RB Liepzig could yet emerge as rivals to any Premier League club.

Confident

However, a source has told me that Celtic are confident of keeping him for at least one more season.

“Celtic are well aware of the interest, but they feel as long as Brendan Rodgers stays then Tierney will too although every player has his price and some of England’s biggest clubs are now on his trail,” the source said.

Tierney signed a new five-year contract with Celtic last summer, but after another stellar campaign – he could even be handed a new deal in the next six months to try.

We spoke to BetVictor’s head of ante post football Michael Triffitt about the market around Tierney – in which they make Arsenal favourites to land him.

He told TheGamblingTimes.com: “Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has many admirers and a host of English Premier League clubs have been keeping watch on the Scottish defender this term.

“Arsenal have been long term suitors and have openly expressed a strong interest. The Gunners are 3/1 favourites to secure his signature in the summer with Manchester United, who seem hell bent on a spending spree in the off season, 4/1 to tempt him to the North West.”
