Forest Of Dean was an impressive winner on the Knavesmire on Saturday from a mark of 100 and we highlighted the fact that his stablemate Wissahickon won last season’s Cambridgeshire from a mark of 107.

Trainer John Gosden has saddled the winner of the first leg of the autumn double four times and with a representative of the classic generation on three of those four occasions. Three-year-old Forest Of Dean is 8/1 at BetVictor for Newmarket – it will be interesting to see how the handicapper reacts to his York success.

They race again at Epsom this afternoon and, despite being drawn out on the wing in stall seven, I hope to see Good Job Power (2.10) win on his nursery debut stepped up to 7f for the first time for Richard Hannon. Silvestre De Sousa is sidelined through injury and Pat Dobbs takes over in the saddle on the juvenile.

The filly South Coast went off favourite for her debut at Kempton when she was slowly away and faded close home having run a race full of promise. The filly is drawn out wide again this afternoon and preference is for Gosden’s once-raced colt Baptism (2.45) who raced prominently when finishing fifth in a Newmarket 7f Maiden on debut. He is bred to appreciate today’s additional furlong.

Geneva Spur is bred to get further than today’s 7f trip of her handicap debut for Roger Varian although it will be interesting to see what the market makes of her chances. Break Of Day (5.25) on the other hand drops back in trip by a furlong having been, seemingly, outstayed when third over a mile at Yarmouth. The filly had previously scored over an extended 7f trip at Lingfield and the hope is that Tom Marquand can get the Queen’s filly into a prominent position from a good draw in stall three.

At Ripon World Title (3.00) steps up to a mile for the first time but he races as if the step up in trip will suit – although there are mixed messages from his breeding. Archie Watson’s colt was only beaten half a length at Brighton last time despite looking in need of today’s additional furlong.

Over at Musselburgh and Colour Contrast (6.00) is taken to return to winning ways having won twice over C&D earlier in the season. The 6-year-old was held here last time, but he continues to run well in defeat and the handicapper has dropped him 1lb since his last run.

At Bath this evening Lucky Number (5.50) was a fluent winner over C&D last time and he is taken to follow up from an 8lbs higher mark under Georgia Cox who is good value for her 3lb claim.

Alandalos (6.20) returns to a mile in the Novice event under Jim Crowley and is taken to break her maiden tag at the sixth time of asking for Charlie Hills whose Battash is reported to be under consideration for a crack at the Breeders’ Cup in November.

At Ballinrobe, I hope to see the winning point-to-pointer Generator City (7.40) make a winning stat over the larger obstacles. Connections look to have found a very winnable looking race and the selection finished runner up over timber last time when he looked to find 2m 4f on the sharp side.
