News yesterday that impressive Sandown mile maiden winner Too Darn Hot will step up in grade in Saturday’s Gp 3 Solario Stakes back at the Esher track. The juvenile is a brother of last week’s brilliant Galtres Stakes winner Lah Ti Dar but steps back a furlong in trip tomorrow.

The Dubawi colt is Even money favourite with BetVictor to maintain his unbeaten record with Tom Dascombe’s unbeaten Royal Ascot winner Arthur Kitt 4/1 and Acomb Stakes second Watan 7/1. It promises to be a most informative race.

The ground is likely to be good for today’s Sandown card and Time For Bed is well drawn and will appreciate the drop back to the minimum trip, having faded inside the final furlong at Goodwood (6f) at the beginning of the month.

Tom Marquand has been in the plate for the filly’s three starts to date and Richard Hannon’s juvenile is likely to try to bag the far rail where I hope she can help set the race up for Swiss Pride (1.40). The selection reverts to the minimum trip having run well at Goodwood last time when meeting trouble in running at a vital stage.

The filly Hulcote (4.25) was forced to switch and veered across the course when beaten just half a length at Windsor last time and this daughter of Frankel does appear to have some of her father’s foibles. That was the second successive race the filly has shifted left, but Clive Cox has hopefully ironed out those idiosyncrasies and I feel she should have the race run to suit.

At Thirsk Toffee Galore (2.30) is taken to go one better than when runner up at Chelmsford last time. The selection has been a beaten favourite on both starts but was too keen at Carlisle on debut. The filly is well drawn this afternoon and the hope is that Eddie Greatrex can get into a nice position and kick on at the top of the straight. Blue Gardenia is the obvious danger with Divinity and Sootability both penalised for their recent wins.

The Knot Is Tied (5.15) was foiled in his hat-trick bid at Redcar last week but the step back up to 2m should suit and James Sullivan is back in the saddle this afternoon.

In the last Trogon (5.50) got embroiled in a battle for the lead at Kempton last time and in the circumstances did well to be beaten just over two lengths. The selection has run some solid races in defeat off higher marks earlier in the season and his apprentice jockey takes off 10lbs.

At Wolverhampton, Theatre Of War (5.05) can follow up last month’s C&D winner despite having to give 7lbs or more to today’s six rivals. Silvestre De Sousa takes over in the saddle. Self Assessment looks the main danger for Karl Burke.

Balaawy (7.05) is a half-sister to the decent stayers Lady Tiana and Blakeney Point and she looks ready for this step up to 12f for the first time having finished second over 10f at Lingfield last time. Yuka Kawada has ridden three winners but has been a beaten favourite on a couple of Roger Varian trained runners in the last fortnight.

Varian’s number 1 jockey Andrea Atzeni is at Hamilton this evening and has a number of very good chances including in the feature Lanark Silver Bell with Zeelander (6.55) who returns from an eight-week break having finished runner up in all three starts so far this season. Varian’s colt has been raised 12lbs for those efforts and I feel – as a son of Dubawi – he will appreciate today’s forecast easier ground.
