Eight will go to post for the Tingle Creek at Sandown on Saturday after all the principles stood their ground at the 48-hour declaration stage. Defi Du Seuil has eased to 6/4 at BetVictor with Un De Sceaux and Politilogue 4s in what looks a good renewal of the Grade 1 contest over 13 fences.

The ground was described as a mix of good to soft and soft at Sandown on Thursday ahead of today’s card. Johnbb (1.20) jumped well on his chase debut at Aintree over 2m 4f and Tom Lacey drops his five-year-old down to the minimum trip today. The form took a bit of a knock when winner Champagne Mystery ran disappointingly at Haydock midweek, but Robbie Power is a significant jockey booking and he gets the each way vote. Do note a market move for Evan Williams’ Cesar Collonges who looked in need of his reappearance over hurdles last month.

My Way came down at the last at Plumpton on his reappearance having travelled like the best horse for much of the race. The Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old is 5lbs higher today but must go close with that experience under his belt.

The each way vote, however, goes to Dashing Perk (1.55) who makes his reappearance following a 414-day lay-off for Dr Richard Newland. Daryl Jacob comes in for the ride on a horse who jumped very well when third at Uttoxeter on his sole start over fences last autumn. The horse has a history of going well fresh and Jacob rode a winner for the yard over fences at Sedgefield last month.

I’m not convinced there is a star on show in the Grade 2 Winter Novices’ Hurdle, but a chance is taken on the unbeaten Overthetop (2.25) who did not achieve a great deal when scoring at Carlisle on his hurdles debut but did look potentially smart and he gets the vote for Olly Murphy and Richard Johnson.

Le Reve (2.55) is down to the same mark as when winning the Grand Military Gold Cup over today’s C&D under Jody Sole back in the spring and Lucy Wadham’s veteran gets the vote in the amateur riders’ handicap chase. I thought the selection looked sure to come on for his reappearance here last month and, if the ground does not dry out too much, I feel he must run a big race.

At Exeter Kateson (1.30) makes his chase debut for Tom Lacey having moved well to two out in a valuable handicap hurdle at Haydock Park on his reappearance. The grey was not beaten far behind Champ in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle last season and he does not meet anything of that calibre today. He certainly has the scope to jump a fence.

No reference to Mud this time but Those Tiger Feet (2.05) was well supported overnight before the meeting at Ludlow was abandoned earlier in the week and he gets the vote stepping up in trip for Kim Bailey. The selection laid it down to his rivals over a shorter trip here last month and an 8lbs rise looks fair.

The form of Espoir De Guye’s (2.35) Chepstow second has been given a boost by the subsequent wins of the first and third and he gets the vote in the 2m 3f handicap chase for Venetia Williams. The selection is 2lbs higher this afternoon but, more significantly, steps up in distance having rallied well over the minimum trip last time.
