The Group 2 Lowther Stakes is the opening race on day two of York’s Ebor meeting and this looks a top-class renewal of this 6f contest for juvenile fillies. Princess Margaret winner Under The Stars is unbeaten in two starts, but I know there are some in the James Tate yard who feel her stablemate Nasaiym is superior given the latter won despite the ground – good to soft – at Newbury last time.

The vote, however, goes to Liberty Beach (1.55) who has won four of her five career starts including the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time. All wins have been gained over the minimum trip, but she looked ready for a step up to 6f last time and she holds an entry in the Gp 1 Cheveley Park over 6f next month. The selection is 7/4 at BetVictor.

In the valuable Sales’ race market leader Show Me Show Me (9/2 at BetVictor) finished ahead of George Scott’s Raahy (2.30) in the Molecomb last time but I feel the latter is ready for a return to 6f and can reverse the form on 3lb better terms. The selection is 8/1 at BetVictor and is an each way recommendation. Rayong looks the main danger drawn near to the stands’ rail.

If Blackheath was guaranteed to appreciate the additional furlong in the mile handicap, he would have an excellent chance for Ed Walker while Her Majesty’s Seniority would have got the vote had he not been drawn out on the wing in stall 19.

Kynren (3.00) finished runner up in this corresponding race 12 months ago from a 4lbs lower mark and deserves to finally land one of these big handicaps having run another top-class race when fifth in the Hunt Cup last time. The selection has a decent enough draw in stall 8 – he was drawn in 3 last year – and should have the race run to suit with a strong gallop, seemingly, guaranteed. The each way selection is 13/2 with BetVictor who are paying five places on the race.

Only four go to post in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks with John Gosden saddling two – Lah Ti Dar and Enable – and Aidan O’Brien two with Magical and pacemaker South Sea Pearl. This is likely to be the last time we will see the wonder-mare Enable (3.35) in Britain, with a crack at an unprecedented third successive Arc in Paris ikely to be her last race before retiring to the paddocks.

Lah Ti Dar ran her bet race on this card 12 months ago when running away with the Galtres Stakes but Magical looks the only conceivable danger to the market leader although she has already been beaten by Enable three times in the last 12 months.

The classic generation have won the last eight renewals of the Galtres Stakes and Dermot Weld saddled the winner courtesy of Pale Mimosa back in 2012. Weld brings the lightly-raced Search For A Song (4.15) over from his base near the Curragh and I will be disappointed if she doesn’t run a very big race.

The selection (5/2 at BetVictor) finished fourth in the Irish Oaks last time and a repeat of that run might be good enough dropping down to listed company, although having had just three career starts she remains open to considerable improvement. Aiden O’Brien’s Frosty has a similar profile to the selection but does not yet have the same level of form. A market move would be worth noting however.

Salayel (4.50) was a late defector at Goodwood last month and has been raised 6lbs for finishing runner up at Newmarket on her British debut, but she gets the vote in the 7f fillies Handicap for Roger Varian. The each way selection is drawn in stall five and is 5/1 with BetVictor who are paying five places!

It is well documented how proud Yorkshireman William Haggas loves to have winners at York and his Mubtasimah is unbeaten in three starts so far this term including when scoring over C&D on her reappearance. She looks a big threat at 9/2 with BetVIctor.

At Stratford this evening Precious Bounty (2.05) jumped well on his chase debut at Ffos Las when only run out of it from the last over slightly further than todays trip of an extended two-and-a-quarter miles. Richard Johnson takes over in the saddle from a 3lbs higher mark.

There is a cracking Beginners’ Chase at Killarney this evening and Movewiththetimes (7.40) was travelling as well as anything when coming down on the second circuit in the Galway Plate when the subject of a sustained gamble. He was formerly trained by Paul Nicholls and has had plenty of opportunities over fences, but tonight should be the night it all clicks.
