Nine fillies will go to post for the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket on Friday with the market headed by Roger Charlton’s Quadrilateral – unbeaten in her two starts – who is 9/4 market leader at BetVictor. This represents a big step up in class for the daughter of Frankel. The ground was described as soft on Wednesday with further showers forecast.

At Kempton this evening Premier Power (6.00) can go one better than when runner up at Newmarket on debut when backed into Evens but just touched off having looked home and hosed for much of the final furlong before tying up to be beaten a head. King Power Racing’s retained jockey Silvestre De Sousa takes over in the saddle this evening on Roger Varian’s juvenile.

Chiefofchiefs is worth a second glance in the £30k claiming handicap but Kasbaan (7.00) has been a revelation since joining the yard of Michael Appleby and can land his hat-trick of C&D successes despite an 8lbs rise for his facile success last time.

I hope to see a big run from No Thanks (8.30) in the 12f Handicap who is in good form at present and ran well on his sole start at Kempton as a juvenile. The 3-y-old is well drawn in two but is 2lbs higher in the weights than when third at Yarmouth last time.

I believe there is more to come from Cap St Vincent and Cougar’s Gold this season but there is more rain forecast and I wonder if that will suit Keep Moving (3.30) more than most. The Philip Hobbs’ trained 7-year-old travelled well but was all out at the finish when scoring at Chepstow last time and he is only 2lbs higher in the weights today.

David Bass keeps the ride on Veiled Secret (4.35) who won at Taunton for David Dennis when last seen in the spring. The five-year-old is rated 73 on the level so should be up to defying a 7lbs rise for his April success which takes his jumps rating to 90.

If You Say Run (2.10) makes her eagerly-awaited chase debut for Paul Nicholls in the Mares’ Chase at Worcester and the selection has had her wind operated on since she last run. The mare won her sole point-to-point and has an outstanding record fresh.

Oathkeeper (2.45) remains a maiden over fences but I thought he ran with promise at Sedgefield last time on just his second start for Jonjo O’Neill and the selection has bits of chase form in Ireland for Joseph O’Brien to suggest he may be well treated at present. Newtown Lad and Ballymilan should ensure there is an end-to-end gallop which should the selection as should the drop back to a trip just short of three miles.

Mossy Fen is one to note in the market having his Rules debut for Nigel Twiston-Davies. The 4-y-old cost £60,000 at Tattersalls horses-in-training sale back in the spring having won a point-to-point in his native Ireland.

Dolphin Square will make a decent chaser in time, but preference is for Storm Rising (3.50) who impressed when scoring at Wincanton on his penultimate start last season. He disappointed on his final start, but Paul Nicholls’ looks sure to have his charge well forward for his return to action.

David Maxwell owns and rides Cat Tiger (4.55) who makes his British debut for Paul Nicholls having been off the track since scoring over fences at Auteuil back in November. The 5-y-old is a maiden over hurdles and it will be interesting going forward if connections decide to stay over timber as a novice or go handicapping over the larger obstacles.
