Enable was handed an excellent draw in stall six for Sunday’s Arc at Longchamp but remains Even money favourite with BetVictor for back-to-back wins in the Paris showpiece. Sea The Class has a moderate draw to overcome in stall fifteen and is 7/2 with Waldgeist now 6/1 (from 7s) despite another modest post position in stall 15.

We suggested earlier in the week that the 4/1 for Wind Chimes to win the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow looked a shade too big and the French filly is the 5/2 favourite at BetVictor with the admirable Laurens 11/4 and Veracious 9/2.

A six-race card at Ascot this afternoon and the opening 7f race is a cracker. Jamie Spencer gave Courtside plenty to do at Yarmouth last time over a mile and I hope he is ridden slightly more prominently in what is, arguably, a better race dropping back a furlong. A 3lbs rise for his Yarmouth run is fair and he gets the each way vote. Manthoor is drawn next to the stands’ rails and a bold bid is expected from the Owen Burrows grey.

Enzemble has his first start for James Fanshawe and it is worth noting that the colt drops back in trip to a mile – the distance of his Kempton win under Gerald Mosse back in August – having been campaigned over further of late. Mosse is back in the saddle this afternoon but the colt would be meeting a number of today’s rivals on much better terms if this were a handicap.

Blue Mist is drawn on the wing and may need softer ground and the vote goes to the filly who returns to the scene of her Sandringham second at the Royal meeting back in mid-summer. The filly has subsequently won a 7f polytrack handicap in August and she is open to more improvement after just six career starts.

The feature contest is the listed Noel Murless Stakes and on good ground I expect Charlie Appleby’s Ghostwatch (3.35) to appreciate the return to 1m 6f having been done for toe over two furlongs shorter here last month. The selection has been a different proposition since his gelding operation and he is taken to confirm Melrose form with Mekong who improved on soft ground when winning at Haydock last time.

Appleby also saddles African Jazz (4.10) in the 2m handicap and this three-year-old scored on his first start over the trip at Kempton last time. The 3-y-old has only had the five career starts and can need plenty of stoking but he looks a thorough stayer and William Buick has ridden him in his last couple of starts.

There is a useful Beginners’ Chase at Fontwell and leading conditional Rex Dingle takes off a valuable 7lbs from the back of Ennistown who won a Plumpton Handicap Hurdle in first time blinkers over three miles last month. He is rising nine, however, and preference is for The Mighty Don (2.40) who I have always felt could make a decent chaser for Nick Gifford whose yard had a winner at Huntingdon yesterday.

A market move for Waterloo Warrior (5.00) would be worth noting in the concluding Handicap Chase for Colin Tizzard. The six-year-old hinted that chasing would see him in a better light when runner up at Uttoxeter back in May. Angus Cheleda takes off a valuable 8lbs in this conditional jockey’s event.

Great to have Bryony Frost back in the saddle and her mount Mercers Court is chasing a hat-trick for Neil King. He looks the main danger.

Richard Johnson travels to Hexham to ride Jaunty Thor (4.35) a recent Perth winner over timber for Gordon Elliot. The selection can run from a 9lbs lower mark this afternoon and looks to have a leading chance if he can take transfer that form back to the larger obstacles.
