Pontefract must pass a 7am inspection and with the likelihood of further rain it might be prudent to begin our preview elsewhere. The ground was described as soft at Windsor at noon on Sunday and it will be interesting to see if the jockeys’ tag across to the far rail inside the final couple of furlongs.

Torcello (3.40) has won his last couple and was impressive when scoring at Epsom last time and he can race from a mark just 2lbs higher today, despite a 5lbs penalty, given he was out of the handicap last time.

At Stratford Maire Banrigh (2.50) must shoulder 12st 6lbs but she is a built to carry weight, goes well fresh and won her sole point in Ireland on soft ground for Colin Bowe. The mare doesn’t appear to take much racing and Dan Skelton looks sure to have her ready first time out.

In the concluding Bumper Shantou Express (4.50) is taken to go one better than when runner up at Ludlow on debut. The winner – Floressa – went on to finish runner up in a decent contest at Cheltenham’s April meeting for Nicky Henderson.

At Newcastle Live Your Dream (6.00) can make it third time lucky for Saeed Bin Suroor having finished placed in a couple of mile maidens under Oisin Murphy. Hector Crouch takes over in the saddle this evening and he steps up in trip by another quarter-mile.

In the last Rockley Point (8.30) ran on well when third over 5f here last week and the return to 6f should see him in an even better light. The 6-y-old has been rated much higher in the past and he is well served by conditions in tonight’s race for horses rated 0-50.

In the opener at Tipperary Willie Mullins saddles Janidil (2.05) and he is taken to go one better than when second at Tramore on his first start for the yard at the beginning of the year. His subsequent absence from the track is a slight concern, but he looks sure to be ready to do himself justice. A market move for Joseph O’Brien’s Immortal Name would be worth noting.

Daly Tiger (3.35) has not been seen since disappointing in a Leopardstown Grade 1 over Christmas, but he gets the vote in the Beginners Chase for Noel Meade whose Snow Falcon won the big race at Gowran on Saturday.
