Waldgeist was cut from 10s to 4/1 at BetVictor for the Breeders’ Cup Turf after his dramatic Arc win at Paris-Longchamp on Sunday, but I wouldn’t be in a rush to back Andre Fabre’s five-year-old with connections mulling over their options. If you have the opportunity do look at the impressive racecourse debut of Kinross who won at Newmarket on debut at the weekend. The colt is 20/1 at BetVictor for the 2020 2000 Guineas. We will know more about possible classic aspirations after his next start, but he looked a very smart recruit at HQ.

Leicester must pass what is described as a precautionary inspection at 7.30am but, if the card gets the green light, I believe Tavus (1.50) can run a big race in the opening 12f handicap for Roger Charlton. The selection has run well on his sole start on soft ground and is clearly going the right way. Thomas Greatrex is good value for his 5lbs claim.

Tarboosh (2.55) did us a favour at Beverley last time and can follow up on his favourite soft/heavy ground in the valuable 5f handicap which has, surprisingly, attracted just the three runners.

Spirit Ridge (3.25) has been raised 5lbs for finishing second at Newmarket last time but that was his best run of the season and I feel there is more to come from Amanda Perrett’s four-year-old who won on the corresponding card 12 months ago – albeit on good ground. His ability to handle today’s ground must be taken on trust although his father – Nathaniel – thrived in such conditions.

There is a good jumps card at Galway and I’m looking forward to seeing the Hurdles debut of Gordon Elliot’s Thatsy (2.05) who has already won a point and a Bumper. The selection cost £130,000 when bought by connections back in April 2018 but he has only had the one race since when winning at Navan back in February. He bypassed all the spring Festivals but has the scope to be a decent novice hurdler.

Gun Digger (3.40) is a fine-looking chaser who hadn’t been asked a serious question when falling on the final circuit in the 4m NH Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Today’s 2m 6f trip is on the sharp size for Gordon Elliot’s 7-year-old but he is favoured by the conditions of the race and ran well first time out last season.

There is a competitive twilight card at Chelmsford and Secret Victory (5.40) is taken to make a winning debut for Charlie Appleby. The Dubawi colt is out of a mare who won from 10f to 2m and the selection is likely to get further in time, but he is certainly bred for the job. Those with experience look beatable and the danger could be the Stoute-trained newcomer Chairman Power.

Thomas Greatrex comes on from Leicester – if the card goes ahead – to ride Spice War (6.40) who is taken to follow up his recent course win over 1m 6f from a 6lbs higher mark. There is no reason why Oliver Sherwood’s 4-y-old should not be at least as effective stepped up to two miles for the first time.
