Leger winner Logician was the star of the show at Doncaster on Saturday, but I was also impressed with Champagne Stakes winner Threat who defied a 3lbs penalty in some style in the Champagne Stakes. Richard Hannon’s colt was cut from 20s to 16s with BetVictor for next spring’s 2000 Guineas ahead of yesterday’s Gp 1 National Stakes at the Curragh which featured the antepost favourite Pinatubo who went into the race the 11/4 market leader.

At Kempton this evening the filly Alma Linda (7.00) did us a favour when making all over C&D last time and I hope to see jockey Luke Morris make plenty of use of the three-year-old from a good draw in stall three. The selection is 6lbs higher tonight, but more of a worry is that she might not get a soft lead as another 3-y-old filly Hermosura also made all from a 7lbs lower mark – in first time blinkers – last time. I just favour the Prescott-trained filly.

I hope it’s a good night for Prescott as Percy’s Prince (7.30) returns from a nine-week lay-off having disappointed at Wolverhampton over an additional quarter-mile last time. The gelding had previously run a very promising race back at Dunstall Park over this evening’s trip and the gelding has been dropped 3lbs since his last run.

At Thirsk earlier in the day I hope to see Vibrance (4.00) go one better than when runner up to the aforementioned Hermosura at Kempton when she was given far too much to do and was never nearer than at the line. There is a bit of rain forecast for the area on Sunday which would certainly not inconvenience this daughter of Nathaniel.

In the Fillies’ Handicap over a mile I hope to see Sloane Garden (4.30) improve for the step up to a mile on her handicap debut for James Tate. The selection has been well supported in the market in each of her three starts so connections obviously feel she is well up to winning a race. She does not look thrown in from an opening mark of 72, but she is open to further improvement especially stepping up in trip.

At Worcester Beni Light (1.50) overcame a shuddering mistake to win at Uttoxeter last week over 2m 4f and he can follow up under a 7lbs penalty with the return to three miles of no concern. The selection won between the flags for today’s conditional jockey who was also in the plate last week. The mare Phoenix Rock returns from a seven-week break and still looks potentially well treated despite being 6lbs higher than when runner up at Southwell last time.

I’m looking forward to the Beginners Chase and hope to see Seven De Baune (2.20) make a winning debut over the larger obstacles having won a Bumper and a Hurdle previously for Ian Williams. The selection jumped out to the left when winning over timber at Ludlow back in November, so this left-handed track should suit.

At Galway I expect to see Great White Shark (5.15) return to winning ways having not had the best of runs when third at the Festival here last time. The mare should appreciate today’s slightly shorter trip even though she has won over 3m and, it is worth noting, that she was a winner on the level at the Festival prior to her defeat over hurdles.
