Future Champions Day at Newmarket on Saturday and two Group 1’s including the Middle Park Stakes over 6f for two-year-old colts. The three market leaders are all unbeaten. Richard Hannon’s impressive York winner Mums tipple is BetVictor’s 9/4 market leader with Andre Fabre’s Earthlight 5/2 and Ger Lyons’ Siskin 9/2. If all three hold their ground it promises to be an outstanding renewal of this prestigious contest won last year by the July Cup winner Ten Sovereigns.

Plenty of rain forecast across the country on Monday/Tuesday but they race on the polytrack surface at Lingfield and Oisin Murphy takes over in the saddle on Brogans Bay (3.25) who made all over C&D back in June from just a 3lbs lower mark and has an excellent draw in stall two for one who can race prominently.

Good Tidings (4.30) went off the Even money favourite at Salisbury on debut but was slowly away and green throughout. He is entitled to come on for the experience and gets the nod in the 10f Novice event. Final Orders ran with considerable promise at Leicester on debut before he failed to cope with the step up in trip on softer ground at Ripon last time. Simon Crisford applies cheek-pieces this afternoon – he is a big danger.

Zegalo (2.30) ran a race full of promise at Ascot on debut – winner has since franked the form – and if he copes with the forecast softer ground then he looks sure to go close for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni.

Dubai Acclaim (3.05) won the Leger Legends race on fast ground at Doncaster earlier in the month under Sammy Jo Bell and a 3lbs rise may not prevent a follow up with Sean Davis – who did us a favour in the last at Ayr bon Saturday – taking off a valuable 3lbs. the prospect of softer ground is not a problem.

Kyllang Rock is likely to be a short price in the 5f Conditions event, but preference is for Tarboosh (3.35) with heavy rain forecast for the track during the day. The selection has not been at his best so far this campaign but has a 7lbs pull with the likely favourite on Nottingham running last month and he can reverse the form.

There is a cracking handicap chase at Warwick over 3m 1f and I just wonder if the forecast rain will scupper the chance of top-weight Treackle Tart and marginal preference is for Ballymilan (3.50) who has gone well fresh in the past and is not likely to be as inconvenienced as some by the prospect of soft ground. Regular pilot Tom Bellamy keeps the ride with Sam Twiston-Davies riding Quarenta for Jonjo O’Neill.

Adicci (4.30) finished runner up on debut here back in May and he is taken to go one better with that experience behind him for the father and son Jonjo O’Neill combination. He won’t have things all his own way, however, with BetVictor brand ambassador Jamie Snowdon saddling a potentially smart sort in Kiltealy Briggs who has had a recent wind operation and is fitted with a tongue-tie for his Rules debut. His second in his sole Irish point is useful form and he races in the famous McNeill family colours.

At Chelmsford this evening Alfarqad (7.30) has been gelded since his last run when he scored at Kempton last September, but it should be noted that he overcame another 12-month absence on that occasion. Jim Crowley takes over in the saddle for Owen Burrows.

Barca (8.30) won over 2m on his penultimate start but he suggested that he wouldn’t be inconvenienced by a drop back in distance when third her over 2m last time from this evening’s mark. Crowley keeps the ride and the hope is that he advised trainer Marcus Tregoning that a return to 1m 6f would suit.
