There was light rain forecast for Haydock for much of Thursday which should ensure the ground is on the easy side of good for today’s card. In what looks a very competitive 10f handicap I felt Everything For You (4.45) ran an excellent race when short of run before staying on well behind the progressive Hamlul at Beverley last time.

Kevin Ryan’s four-year-old is 2lbs higher today and might not want the ground to ease too much, but I thought he looked as if his turn was near last time although I wouldn’t want jockey Kevin Stott to get too far back from his plum draw in stall one. Swiss Storm and Ibraz are considered big dangers in a fascinating handicap.

Burn Some Dust will appreciate any significant rain and he must go close in the mile-and-three-quarters handicap which closes the card, but his draw in stall 12 is a concern and I just favour Nibras Galaxy (5.15) who improved in his first-time blinkers to win at Yarmouth last time from a 3lbs lower mark.

Oisin Murphy, William Buick and James Doyle are the three “go-to” jockeys riding in Britain at present and the former takes the ride on Ismail Mohammed’s three-year-old who, as a son of Nathaniel, should not be inconvenienced by a bit of cut in the ground.

At Ascot the aforementioned Doyle rides Andrew Balding’s Bangkok (2.05) who created a favourable impression when runner up to a potentially smart newcomer from the Sir Michael Stoute yard, ridden by Doyle, at Newmarket last month. The selection holds an entry in next year’s Derby as does Fox Vardy in the colours of the owner of Leicester City.  This should be a most informative 7f maiden with several winners likely to come out of the race.

The veteran Shady McCoy (4.20) has been in good form of late and is likely to prefer this straight mile to the tight turns of Chester last time when beaten two lengths despite not appearing to handle the track.

There is a cracking card at Kempton this evening and Imperial Charm (7.15) created a very favourable impression on debut when third at Newmarket beaten just half a length. The filly holds an entry in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile next month and is well drawn in stall one.

Charlie Appleby has saddled the winner if this valuable juvenile Conditions’ event three times in the last five years and he saddles Nashirah who makes her racecourse debut. The filly holds no fancy engagements, but a market move would be worth noting for this beautifully bred newcomer.

Mootasadir (7.45) wouldn’t be the first horse to bounce back after a poor run on the July course and the Dansili colt has been dropped 3lbs for that poor run. The colt is unbeaten in two starts on the all-weather including on polytrack at Chelmsford on debut earlier in the year.

The “Blaydon Races” nursery at Newcastle today is a good renewal of this prestigious juvenile contest. Massam looks well treated but this stiff mile is not certain to suit on pedigree and I just favour Amber Spark (4.00) who won over 7f here on her penultimate start and looked ready for a step up to a mile when beaten three lengths off this mark at Newmarket last time.

There is rain forecast at Musselburgh and I feel Pammi (5.30) can get back to winning ways having been caught out of her ground over today’s C&D last time before finishing with a rare rattle. Do note a market move for Makawee on her handicap debut – she ran with a great deal of promise on her third start and begins life in handicaps on what could be a decent mark.
