Doncaster’s St Leger meeting begins on Wednesday and Logician remains BetVictor’s 5/4 market leader for the final classic of the season. Wednesday’s Kerry National is the highlight of Listowel’s year and the former Paul Nicholls’ inmate Movewiththetimes is BetVictor’s 7/2 favourite.

At Wolverhampton this evening a market move for Mark Johnston’s newcomer Desert Safari would be worth noting with Oisin Murphy a rare and eye-catching jockey booking. The filly Say It Simple (6.00) showed a good degree of promise when second at Beverley on debut, however, over the minimum trip and today’s additional furlong will suit. She gets a narrow vote with that valuable experience under her belt.

Gladice (6.50) is only rated 67 but it is interesting that Marco Botti runs his filly in the Maiden Auction event rather than let her chance in a nursery. She didn’t have the best of runs – hit by a rival’s whip – at Chelmsford last time and I like the booking of Cieren Fallon who won a valuable handicap at Haydock on Saturday aboard Time To Study. He is excellent value for his 5lbs claim.

Festina (7.00) would not have to be anything special to make a winning debut and she is certainly bred for the job being a half-sister to a couple of previous winners. Sir Mark Prescott can get them ready first time out, she has a good draw in stall one if she breaks well and, at the time of writing, the stable have had three winners from their last five runners.

Court Order looked to be crying out for further when third at Nottingham over a mile on debut, but he faces a very well-bred newcomer in the shape of Badessa (8.00) in the finale. Andrew Balding’s filly is a half-sister to Montaly and connections can have their patience rewarded.

Over at Brighton and Freckles did us a favour at Chepstow last week but that didn’t look the strongest of races and she may be vulnerable under a 5lbs penalty. I know connections feel there is more to come from Trailboss (3.50) who disappointed at Yarmouth last time although he did look a non-stayer over that 1m 6f trip. He drops down by half-a-mile this afternoon and is 1lb lower in the weights. Note there is rain forecast and I wasn’t convinced the selection was letting himself down on the fast ground last time.

Stream Lady (2.40) did us a favour at Sedgefield last time and she can take a 4lbs rise in her stride at Perth this afternoon. David Pipe’s mare has been ridden by Tom Scudamore in her last five starts but David Noonan takes over in the saddle this afternoon with Scudamore riding at Newton Abbot.

I hope the reason why Scudamore remains down south is because he feels the return to 3m 2f will suit the mare Timeforben (3.30) one of three representatives from the yard in the Stayers’ Hurdle.  The selection is taken to reverse recent course form with Sizing Granite on the revised terms over the additional distance. Any significant rain would be a positive.

Game Line (4.30) can reverse recent C&D running with Midnight Ben especially if the forecast rain arrives. There was little between the pair just nine days ago, but I feel the Christian Williams’ five-year-old might be best served by a thorough test of stamina.
