Real confident Ronaldo will stay

Real Madrid firmly believe that Cristiano Ronaldo will remain with them this summer.

The Portuguese superstar has caused a huge media storm following news that he was looking to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

But Spanish sources believe many in England are taking the news more serious than those in Spain – with even Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, insisting he has not even spoken to Ronaldo about him wanting to leave.

Perez is celebrating being re-elected Real president and insists that he will talk with Ronaldo, but fully expects him to remain with the club.

“Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player and will continue to be,” said Perez.

“We have not spoken because we were on the deadline for [presidential] nominations and I wanted to be respectful, but I am convinced we will talk and we will solve it. Cristiano has a contract and he is a Real Madrid player.

“I have always said I have great affection for Cristiano. He is one of those players who stands out, and whenever there has been a problem we have solved it.

“Cristiano is playing the Confederations Cup. We will wait until the tournament ends and then we will see the extent of everything that has been written. I am sure it will work out fine.”

Ronaldo is known to be unhappy with tax issues that have seen the Spanish authorities looking to claim millions off him and the 32-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to Manchester United.

Odds were slashed over the weekend, as the news emerged – but bookmakers remain convinced that Ronaldo will stay at Real and he is 2/5 to start the season with them.
