Real still targeting Courtois over Alisson

Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtious remains Real Madrid’s top choice when it comes to signing a new goalkeeper this summer.

The Belgian ace has long been linked with a move back to the Spanish capital, where he spent three hugely successful years on-loan from Chelsea at Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea recalled him in 2014 and he has confirmed his place as one of the world’s top keepers, but as it stands he has just 12-months left on his current deal.

The West London giants have all but accepted that he is leaving as he has rejected a new deal, and the club’s hierarchy are looking to sell him rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

However, a number of goalkeepers are been pushed to Real knowing that they are in the market, one of those is Roma number one Alisson Becker.

And sources have told me that Real have now narrowed down their search to Courtois and Alisson.

The Brazilian, strongly linked with Liverpool, would love to make the move to Santiago Bernabeu but Madrid still have Courtois as their first choice – knowing he would be somewhat cheaper than most of their other targets, given his contract situation.

Bookmakers firmly believe that Courtois is more likely to join Real than Alisson, with BoyleSport making the Belgian odds-on at 10/11 with the Brazilian 11/8.

“Courtois may well be Real Madrid’s first choice and remains a shade of odds on to complete a move, however Chelsea may be reluctant to sell which could further enhance their interest in Alisson,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.

“Should Courtois move to Madrid there’s every chance that Chelsea in turn would themselves target Alisson, and our odds suggest that’s not out of the question. There certainly could be a lot of moves across Europe between the top goalkeepers,” added Aitkenhead.
