Real survive Atletico scare to book final place

Real Madrid survived a scare from Atletico Madrid to progress into the Champions League final after a 4-2 aggregate success.

Real went into the second-leg of their semi-final with a three-goal lead, but they looked in danger of giving their advantage away when Atletico went into a 2-0 lead within the opening 20-minutes.

Saul Niguez headed the home side ahead after 12-minutes and just five-minutes later the lead was doubled from the penalty spot.

Raphael Varane brought down Fernando Torres and Antoine Griezmann tucked home the spot-kick.

They were suddenly within one goal of levelling the tie, but they could not find the equaliser – instead it was Real who struck to seal the win just before half-time.

Jan Oblak did well to stop Toni Kroos’s effort but Isco was on hand to turn the ball home, which booked Real’s place in the final – where they will take on Juventus.

Real are now looking to become the first team in the Champions League era to defend the trophy in the final in Cardiff early next month.

Real are favourites to win at 5/6 with Juve rated at 10/11.
