Rodgers favourite for Leicester role as Puel goes

Leicester City have axed manager Claude Puel, with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers favourite to succeed him.

We revealed last year that Rodgers was on Leicester’s radar, as they have been considering Puel’s position for a number of weeks.

Now Leicester have axed Puel off the back of their 4-1 home loss to Crystal Palace which means they have now gone six games without a win.

Some of Leicester’s bigger names were also growing agitated at Puel and his tactics, and now the club have acted to end his tenure – 16-months after he was appointed.

And Rodgers is very much under consideration, and they could even wait until the end of the season before appointing a permanent successor, if they could not finalise a deal for the right man until then.

Former Liverpool boss Rodgers is believed to be keen on a move back to the Premier League, and it is thought the King Power vacancy is an attractive one,  but Leicester are not just focused on one name.

Rafa Benitez’s people are making it known that he has an interest, whilst former Huddersfield boss David Wagner is another name being discussed – although a number of foreign bosses are also taking an interest.

Rodgers has been installed as the 7/4 favourite with bookmaker Coral. Benitez is second best in the betting at 9/2, while Burnley’s Sean Dyche is 7/1.

“Brendan Rodgers is the early favourite to take over at Leicester in what would be a return to the Premier League for the Celtic boss,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“We have seen early money on Benitez and Dyche both to leave their positions at their respective clubs for the role, while former Huddersfield manager David Wagner is also at the top end of the betting,” added Hill.
