Ronaldo inspires Real with another treble

Cristiano Ronaldo claimed another Real Madrid hat-trick as they eased to a 3-0 win over city neighbours Atletico Madrid and put them on the brink of another Champions League final.

No team in the Champions League era, and since AC Milan in 1990, has retained world football’s biggest club prize – but holders Real are looking good for their third final in four years.

Many thought Atletico would be a tough nut to crack, as they have in the past – but Real’s talisman Ronaldo inspired them to a brilliant win.

Real dominated from the off and Ronaldo headed home Casemiro’s cross.

The home side continued to push forward and Atletico keeper Jan Oblak made a string of important saves but he could do nothing on 73-minutes when Ronaldo thundered home his second.

Ronaldo then completed his second consecutive Champions League hat-trick, having scored five goals in the two quarter-final legs over Bayern Munich, as he controlled Lucas Vazquez’s cross before firing home.

A hugely disappointing display from Atletico saw them fail to register a shot on target.

On the back of such an impressive performance – Real have been made 4/5 favourites to lift the trophy. Atletico are as long as 12/1 to qualify for the final.
