Ross Barkley has told Everton chiefs that he could yet stay and sign a new long-term deal at the club following Ronald Koeman’s departure
Barkley had no future at Everton under Koeman, but now Goodison chiefs have some hope that they could persuade their home-grown England to sign a new deal.
And I have been told by sources that Barkley has confirmed to the club that he could be persuaded to put pen-to-paper, although with his contract expiring at the end of the season – he could agree a pre-contract in January.
Everton also know that Barkley, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury which is set keep him out until the New Year, has a lot of interest.
Chelsea, who saw a deal fall through on deadline day, retain an interest but long-term suitors Tottenham Hotspur remain firm favourites to land him in the summer.
Bookmakers believe that Barkley is most likely to still be with Everton, after the January transfer window.
Lee Price of PaddyPower told us: “Our odds on Barkley leaving in January have frozen, a bit like his career at the moment.
“A lot will depend on who the next Everton boss is. If it’s Unsworth or Dyche, we think he’ll stay.”
