Rugby World Cup Preview – Day 20

Despite the fixture list being stripped by Typhoon Higibas on Saturday, Super Sunday, with four Rugby World Cup matches, looks set to offer a full set of action to keep us glued to the screens.

Home Nations Wales and Scotland are set to play their final Pool encounters, with the latter facing a crucial clash against Japan in a bid to survive in the global showpiece.

In the first two matches of the day, there is just pride on the line for Namibia, Canada, United States of America and Tonga.

Namibia v Canada
Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium – Pool B

For the rugby pursuits, the action kicks off just after 4am (UK Time) with Namibia and Canada set to do battle in Pool B.

With New Zealand and South Africa progressing to the final eight, Namibia and Canada both looking to end the Rugby World Cup campaign with their only win.

Namibia offered the most resilience in their opening encounters, putting 22 points past Italy in their defeat, while Canada have been defeated thoroughly each time out.

United States of America v Tonga
Hanazono Rugby Stadium – Pool C

In another clash only for pride, the United States of America and Tonga do battle, with both sides again seeking a first win of the tournament.

The USA have failed to impress on the global stage and their discipline has caused a number of cards to be shown, while Tonga have shown promise.

Pacific Islanders Tonga pushes France to the brink in their earlier Pool C clash and will be clear favourites against an American side with little strength up front.

Wales v Uruguay
Kumamoto Stadium – Pool D

Wales will seek your complete a perfect Pool D with victory over Uruguay on Sunday morning, with the prospect of France awaiting in the quarter-finals.

Uruguay’s flash in the pan saw them defeat Fiji earlier in the tournament, but Wales have claimed a bonus-point win in every clash to date.

Wales, fresh from beating the Wallabies, will rotate their squad to protect players for the last eight, especially with Dan Biggar already ruled out due to concussion.

Japan v Scotland
International Stadium Yokohama – Pool A

After featuring in the very first Rugby World Cup 2019 match, Japan end the Pool stage with a chance to make the quarter-finals with a crunch clash with Scotland.

The Cherry Blossoms caught headlines in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but are now a serious outfit who command attention, with Scotland set to be dismissed from the competition early.

Scotland must take a bonus-point win to proceed, but were lacklustre against Ireland and the home advantage will swing heavily in favour of Japan and their expansive rugby.

Ben’s Prediction:
Japan win by 12 points
