Alexis Sanchez is no closer to agreeing a new deal with Arsenal, as Manchester City continue to pursue the Chilean superstar – who insists he wants to play Champions League football.
The 28-year-old has already admitted that he knows his future and now he has gone further by insisting he wants to play in the Champions League – something which Arsenal are not next season.
Currently in Australia on their pre-season tour, Arsene Wenger remains insistent that the Chilean will stay, despite the fact he has less than 12-months left on is current deal.
“Of course (he will stay),” Wenger said.
“There is not a lot to resolve with the player. I have spoken through text and it was very positive. My thoughts are always positive.”
But Sanchez – currently back in Chile taking an extended break following his participation in the Confederations Cup.
“I’ve already taken my decision, but now I depend on Arsenal and to see what they want,” Sanchez told Canal 13 in Chile.
“I want to play in the Champions League
“I’ve made my decision, now I wait for Arsenal’s reply. The idea is to play and win the Champions League. I’ve dreamt about it since I was little.
“For now I am at Arsenal and I finish my contract in one more year.”
Bookmakers still believe it is a straight fight between Arsenal and Manchester City – indeed SkyBet list them both at 11/10 to have Sanchez next season.
As we revealed earlier this month, Man City are still confident they can land Sanchez.
