Shock contenders to make England squad

A number of uncapped players are catching the eye of England boss Gareth Southgate.

Ryan Sessegnon has been backed to pick up a shock selection for the England World Cup squad after brilliant campaign with Fulham.

Sessegnon is now 7/1 from 12/1 with BoyleSports after reports that Gareth Southgate has sent staff to watch the wonderkid in recent weeks.

Southgate himself watched Burnley’s James Tarkowski last week in their 2-1 victory over Everton and he is being tipped to earn his first cap in upcoming friendlies against Holland and Italy. The centre back is a 7/1 shot to make the World Cup squad, while team-mate Nick Pope, who is vying for a back-up goalkeeper spot, is 5/4.

34-year-old Brighton striker Glenn Murray, who has scored more Premier League goals than any other Englishman in 2018, is a 10/1 shot to make the plane while teammate Lewis Dunk is 7/1 having earned rave reviews from centre back.

17-year-old Manchester City Phil Foden is also a possible shock option and is listed at 25/1.

Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “We’ve seen it happen before that one wildcard earns a surprise selection and if it is to happen this time the money suggests that Ryan Sessegnon could be the man at 7/1 from 12/1.

“Glenn Murray’s form is raising a few eyebrows even at 34 but Gareth Southgate has been seen at Burnley just last week and it may be worth keeping an eye on 5/4 Nick Pope and 7/1 James Tarkowski as the final push for a seat on the plane to Russia begins in earnest.”
