Snooker Preview – Players Championship

The Ladbrokes Players Championship takes place gets underway in Llandudno on Monday with snooker’s top-16 players gunning for the £125,000 top prize.

As ever the big draw will be five-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, who will open the tournament in the first evening session the Venue Cymru in North Wales.

Recently crowned Welsh Open Champion Stuart Bingham will also be in action on Monday evening.

Tuesday’s early session sees world number one and World Champion Mark Selby kick off his campaign, with Judd Trump and Barry Hawkins featuring later in the day.

We spoke to title sponsors Ladbrokes ahead of the tournament and got the thoughts of Alex Apati.

“I’m not normally one to tip up a player or team ranked number one in the world in any sport. But I really feel like Selby can go all the way this week,” Apati told TheGamblingTimes.com.

“Granted, he’s not had the best of starts to 2017, but the closer we get to the World Championships, the more likely we are to see the best of the Jester from Leicester.

“Of course, as is so often the case, it really depends on which Ronnie turns up to this event. It’s a tournament he’s never won before – whether or not that spurs him on, time will tell.

“But if i was to put my money on the Rocket or Selby right now, I’d be leaning towards the latter. They could potentially meet in the final, which is something every fan on the planet will be hoping to see.”
