Solari insists he won’t quit Real

Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari insists he is not set to resign, despite their Champions League exit.

Solari took over from Julen Lopetegui earlier in the season – after he lasted less than six month in the job, but things are going majorly wrong at the Santiago Bernabeu.

But the latest defeat to Ajax is a new low, as the Dutch giants inflicted a shock 4-1 defeat on Real to knock them – the holders – out of the Champions League.

This follows consecutive defeats to Barcelona that has seen them knocked out of Copa del Rey and fall 12 points behind Barca in La Liga.

But Solari insists that he will not be leaving.

“I did not come to the club in such a difficult moment to give up,” Solari said.

“What we must do is remain as calm as possible in such a difficult moment and take it on with the best character.

“Madrid is bigger than any of us – it always returns – and returns even stronger.”

Bookmakers now believe that Jose Mourinho is firm favourite to take control, whilst Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has seen his odds cut to 3/1 ahead of former boss Zinedine Zidane and Juventus chief Max Allegri.

BetVictor’s Head of antepost Football Michael Triffitt commented: “Santiago Solari may well have overseen his final game in charge of Madrid with former fans favourite Jose Mourinho 2/1 market leader to replace him. Mauricio Pochettino has been well touted for the job and is 3/1 whilst former Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger can be backed at 12/1.”
