Spurs consider Pavard option

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to move for French World Cup star Benjamin Pavard as they see him as the perfect replacement for Toby Alderweireld in their squad.

Spurs are still anticipating that Belgian ace Alderweireld will depart this summer, and they have a number of targets in mind – but Pavard has peaked the interest of boss Mauricio Pochettino and his scouting staff.

22-year-old Pavard has been hugely impressive at right-back for France, but he normally plays centre-half for his club side Stuttgart – but has also played in midfield, and he is seen a perfect like for like replacement for Alderweireld.

Pavard was one of only four players to feature in every second of the 2017–18 Bundesliga season and signed a long-term deal in December which ties him down until 2021 – but Spurs are confident they could strike a deal to land him.

Rivals Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint Germain are also said to be monitoring his situation – but Bookmakers have now slashed their odds on a move to Spurs.

Ladbrokes now make Spurs 2/1 favourites to land him, with Man United 5/2 shots to sign the Stuttgart defender, while Chelsea are out at 5/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Alderweireld’s chances of leaving Spurs are increasing by the day but the latest odds suggest he’ll be replaced by a World Cup winner this summer.”
