Spurs hopeful over Eriksen deal

Tottenham Hotspur remain hopeful over the future of Christian Eriksen and they believe he will sign a new deal with the club – despite interest from Spain.

Spurs are locked in talks with Eriksen over a new deal, whose contract expires in 2020.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have both shown a keen interest in the 26-year-old Dane, but Spurs want him to sign a new deal – but as yet they have not agreed to terms with Eriksen wants to more than double his current £75,000-a-week pay, putting him near club captain Harry Kane.

Mauricio Pochettinho has said this week that he hopes Eriksen – who joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013.

He said: “No news is good news. Who knows? I am not a person who suffers too much in this type of situation, because football is dynamic.

“Football is about interests that sometimes as a manager we cannot manage. It depends on many things. Different parties have interests.”

Bookmakers make Real Madrid firm favourites to land Eriksen, should he move on.

Ladbrokes make it just a 2/1 shot the Tottenham ace swaps London for Madrid before the winter window slams shut, while 4/1 says Barcelona make a move.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Eriksen has been in fine form for Spurs this season – so much so that we reckon he could be heading to a European heavyweight as a result.”
