Summer battle for Harry Maguire

England defender Harry Maguire will have his pick of clubs, if he leaves Leicester City this summer – but he could sign a new deal with The Foxes.

Manchester City have already manoeuvred themselves to head the chase, but sources close to Leicester believe that Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are all ready to compete for his signature.

I am told that Leicester would want well over £50million, and although Maguire is not pushing for a move – he is aware that the Premier League’s biggest clubs are chasing him.

Maguire joined Leicester on a five-year deal in the summer when they paid Hull City, what now looks a bargain, £17million for his signature.

Leicester are aware of the interest but they believe Maguire, who is set to be part of England’s squad for the World Cup finals, will opt to remain at the club.

A source close to the situation has told me that despite having four-years left on the deal he signed last year – the 24-year-old will be offered improved terms.

“He has become an established England international since arriving at Leicester, he is set to go to Russia – Leicester know he is due an improved deal,” the source said.

Leicester boss Claude Puel believes Maguire will decide stay, which will be a good example to the rest of the squad.

“It is a good example with Harry, with other players in our team,” said Puel. “They can have interest from other clubs but it is interesting to listen to Harry.

“He believes in our work, his work with Leicester, and I hope we can continue to develop the club and to be higher up in the table.”

Bookmakers make City and United joint favourites at 4/1 to land Maguire with North London duo Arsenal and Spurs just behind.
