Super League Preview

League leaders Castleford extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points last week after victory over the then second placed side Hull and they will look to maintain that advantage as they open this weekends Super League round.

Castleford face a short trip to Wakefield Trinity – who bounced back to form last week with victory over Warrington – which took them some five points clear in fifth, so won’t be an easy clash for the table-topping Tigers.

Second placed Salford are not in action until Sunday but it is the match of the weekend as they they welcome Leeds Rhinos, who are third, to the AJ Bell Stadium – and both are coming into the clash off the back of wins. Whoever takes the two points, will finished the weekend in second.

Should Salford and Leeds draw, which is not beyond the realms of fantasy, then Hull could again move into second although they have a tough trip to St Helens on Friday to contend with.

Bottom of the table Leigh came close to claiming victory at Catalans last week in a pulsating affair in the South of France and they are on the road again, but have slightly fewer miles to travel as they come up against Warrington. Victory for Leigh would drag The Wolves into the battle for the basement spot.

Elseshere, Catalans entertain Wigan in France, whilst the final match-up sees second from bottom Widnes away at Huddersfield.
