Castleford Tigers have the chance to cement their place at the top of the Betfred Super League table against Huddersfield Giants following their thumping win over Wigan Warriors.

Hull FC and Salford Red Devils are second and third in the standings after wins over Warrington and Widnes respectively.

Huddersfield Giants v Castleford Tigers – 20:00 May 4th

Castleford returned to form last Saturday with a thumping victory over injury-hit Wigan, while Huddersfield had a fine success of their own after upsetting Leeds Rhinos. The Tigers’ form had hit a rocky patch, but tell that to Shaun Wane’s men after they stormed to a resounding 54-4 triumph. Little was expected of the Giants at Headingley but they showed great composure to claim a fine 31-12 success at Headingley. Sam Rapira and Nathan Mason have replaced Mikey Wood and Matthew English for the Giants while Gene Ormsby fills in for absent England international Jermaine McGillvary. Castleford are missing trio Luke Gale, Zak Hardaker and Mike McMeeken, who are in England’s squad to face Samoa.

Warrington Wolves v St Helens – 20:00 May 5th

St Helens could boost their chances of avoiding the bottom four with success over strugglers Warrington. The Wolves have been improved of late, but they remain in the bottom four after going down to Hull FC last time out. Saints brushed aside strugglers Leigh last week, but face a sterner test against Tony Smith’s men. Dom Crosby. Ben Westwood, Harvey Livett and Morgan Smith all come in for Warrington. England duo Chris Hill and stand-off Stefan Ratchford are on international duty while Joe Westerman is unavailable due to a neck injury.

Wigan Warriors v Salford Red Devils – 20:00 

Salford will be out to atone for their opening weekend loss to Wigan on Friday. The Warriors thumped the Red Devils in first half of their first meeting before running out 26-16 winners. Wigan have a raft of injuries to contend with, meaning Salford could have a chance to upset the odds. Ian Watson’s Red Devils come into the game on the back of a comfortable 30-10 win over Widnes while Wigan were thumped by leaders Castleford. Wigan captain Sean O’Loughlin is away on international duty while hooker Michael McIlorum is banned. Youngsters Josh Woods and Gabriel Fell could make their debuts for the hosts. The Red Devils will be without winger Justin Carney after he was handed a lengthy eight-game ban for racially abusing a Toronto Wolfpack player.

Catalans Dragons v Leeds Rhinos – 17:00 May 6th

Catalans Dragons will be out to atone for last week’s loss at Wakefield when Leeds visit Perpignan on Saturday. The Dragons were brushed aside by Trinity on Sunday while Leeds were humbled by Huddersfield. Catalans have won their last two home meetings with Leeds, but they will be without playmaker Luke Walsh through suspension. Leeds have selection worries of their own, with outside backs Ryan Hall and Kallum Watkins away on international duty. Liam Sutcliffe could slot in for Watkins meaning Ash Handley moves to the wing. Catalans are just two-points clear of ninth-placed Warrington and will be eager to stave off the possibility of finishing inside the bottom four.

Leigh Centurions v Wakefield Trinity – 18:00 

Wakefield have suffered a major blow ahead of their trip to Leigh with the news free-scoring winger Tom Johnstone will miss the remainder of the season. The Leeds-born flyer ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against the Dragons last weekend. Leigh will be smarting after throwing away a commanding first-half lead at Wakefield earlier this season. Neil Jukes’ men were leading 24-12 at half onto to go down 28-24 in a stunning comeback for the home side. Leigh’s form has nosedived since and they will need to turn around their form sooner rather than later if they are to avoid finishing in the bottom four.

Widnes Vikings v Hull FC – 15:00 May 7th

Widnes have it all to do if they are to avoid finishing in the bottom four and scrapping for their Super League lives. Denis Betts’ men are bottom of the table with just two wins from 12 and the second-placed Black and Whites will provide a stern test. Scott Taylor will play no part for the visitors as he is away on international duty with England.
