Super League Round 2 Preview with Betfred

Warrington began the new Betfred Super League season with a defeat to Leeds Rhinos and will be desperate to get off the mark at Huddersfield in one of two games on Thursday.

New Wire coach Steve Price described the loss to Leeds as a “good starting point” despite the fact they ended up empty handed and he will be looking for an improved performance at the Giants.

Huddersfield were well beaten by Hull FC in their opener and are rated as the underdogs at 13/8.

Warrington are EVS with a -6 handicap and Ryan Atkins to score the first try is priced at 10/1.

Leeds are also in action on Thursday as they take on promoted Hull KR.

BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE PICKS
Both Huddersfield and Warrington lost their new season openers and this will be a tight affair initially but Warrington to show their class and win by ten; Elland Road and the Rhinos will be a daunting prospect for new boys Hull KR with the champions winning by 20 plus – and that’s despite the return of Danny McGuire in opposition colours; Wakefield will be hoping to build on last week’s success and as they are at home will be too strong for Salford so expect a Trinity win by 12; Down Under showpiece  game will be a tight affair but Wigan will edge out Hull FC  and win  by four; can only see a St Helens triumph against the Catalans with all eyes on the player of the first round Ben Barba…a win by 16 for the Saints; the Tigers  had their tail tweaked against the Saints and with the fixture list being kind will get the Jungle rumbling with a barnstorming win against  Widnes by possibly 20.

The Robins went down 28-6 at home to Wakefield in their first fixture back in the Betfred Super League and could be on the end of another hiding against the Rhinos, who are 10/11 with a -18 handicap.

Trinity are the 1/4 favourites ahead of their home tie with Salford Red Devils in Friday’s solitary fixture.

Wakefield were one of the surprise packages last season and that win over KR suggests they are ready to pick up where they left off.

Salford were crushed 40-12 by a visiting Wigan side in their first game of the new season as they shipped in five second half tries, with the Red Devils 10/11.

St Helens are the 3/1 Betfred Super League Grand Final favourites after their impressive win over Castleford Tigers last time out.

On Saturday Saints travel to a Catalans Dragons side who avoided the drop in the Million Pound Game last season and the visitors are the 2/7 favourites to come out on top.

However, Perpignan is rarely an easy hunting ground and the hosts with a +10 handicap at EVS could be a shrewd bet in this clash.

Wigan are also in action on Saturday as they host Hull FC in a showdown between two legitimate Grand Final hopefuls.

The Warriors are 1/2, a draw is 22/1 and the visitors are 7/4 to come away with a win.

Castleford have a chance to get their season going when they entertain Widnes Vikings in the final Betfred Super League Round 2 clash on Sunday.

Cas are 1/6 to claim the win or EVS with a -14 handicap.
